"I'm going to have to get used to carrying big equipment now -- but our first show went as well as could be expected. The audience filled the room, and were seated, attentive and excited about hearing us.
The benefit was for the appeals fund of Josh Harper, an animal rights activist who was recently and wrongfully sentenced to jail time due in no small part to the current obsession with 'domestic terrorism.' I tried to make a joke about how I hoped we showed up on some blacklist of musicians on the internet because of our participation in this fundraiser (despite the fact that we are whitebread enough to have covered a Simon & Garfunkel song) but flubbed it and was met with awkward silence which I took as everyone being offended. Oops!
Being on stage with Lauren and Mike was great, and having Meredith and Steve providing duelling melodicas on 'hey Abraham' was a treat." -Jack |
