Containing news of new web presences.
We have uploaded our music to a few more places on the internet so that you can hear our new songs in better fidelity. First is our newly-updated last.fm page.
The other is our new Facebook page. If you have a Facebook account, we hope you will click the "Become a fan" link on the right side of the page. We are feeling lonely there in the early days!
In non-web news, we get started this weekend on the next batch of songs for our album. We're doing lots of eleventh-hour rehearsals down in the freezing basement in order to commit some tight performances to tape in a few days. More big news soon. Stay alert and stay warm!

Containing news of our emergence from the cave.
Yes, we've been a bunch of strangers, we'll admit it. To those who have been checking this news page religiously for the past 18 months, waiting for next update, we offer our sympathy. Where have we been hiding, you ask?
We've been working on that album we promised way back when. Hard at work in fits and spurts, but really just "hard at waiting" as we tackled numerous technical issues that stood in the way of progress. It seemed like too much of a tease to really update before we had anything to show for ourselves, but as of today we break our silence: the album's first four songs have been mixed and posted on our Myspace page for all to hear. (They're on our Virb profile, too, and the audio quality is better there.) We encourage your feedback.
And if you're going to compliment us, why not just compliment us to our faces? We're performing a show this Friday at the Artistery, which is a perfect opportunity. It's our first in six months and quite possibly our only one for some time to come, so don't miss out. It's Grey Anne's CD release and we're proud to be supporting her. We go on promptly at 8 PM. We're even playing a few brand new songs, including a few with Becky on lead vocals.

Containing news of the fact that we are big ol' liars.
Not three days go by and we go against everything that was claimed in our last news entry. Recording is starting off slower than we'd like, we miss the stage, and we got a great offer to open for Loney, dear (from Sweden, on Sub Pop Records) and Great Northern (from Los Angeles) at the end of the month. I know you no longer have any reason to trust us, but come hear us play some new songs and let us redeem ourselves. Check out the calendar for the scoop.

Containing news of our recording plans.
As you may have noticed, our calendar is completely empty when it comes to shows at the moment. After our last show in March we have been taking some time off to work on some recordings for our debut album. It's slow going, thus far, but we've got 12 songs picked out and I'm working to complete the orchestral arrangements (some for 15+ extra players!) before we go into the studio to start tracking anything. Hopefully we'll have some songs in completed form by late summer, but you never know with these things, and it's certainly not a good idea to rush. But it'll be nice to have something current and fully-formed to represent us, even just for our sadly neglected MySpace player!

Containing news of new band members.
We have added some new folks to the lineup, which you may have noticed if you saw our performance last night at the Funky Church or last week at the roller derby. Eric decided to step away from the group at the beginning of January, and Nick Lawrence is now seated at the drum throne. We've also been joined by Becky Brosnan, who will be playing organ and electric guitar.
We're very excited to have both of them as part of the combo, and we're going to be playing minimally over the next few months while everybody gets comfortable with new songs. We hope you'll come see us and check out the new lineup at our next show -- we're playing with Strength and The Catch at the Artistery in Portland on Saturday, February 24th.

Containing news of new photography, further band auditions and upcoming shows.
Perhaps you have noticed the new photography that is gracing the pages of this website. The images were captured by the estimable Ryan Russell-Christy, the same trigger finger who was responsible for the last set of shots that gave spice to our little web presence. Go check out his other photography on Flickr -- I think you'll be impressed. He is off to Newfoundland for awhile, so I am sure soon enough we will be seeing a lot of imagery of the great white north over there.
You can also see some shots Ryan took of two of our recent shows with the four-piece lineup. He was there to capture show #83 at the Doug Fir and show #88 at Mississippi Studios.
Now that we have had a bunch of successful performances together and Eric is firmly in place at the drumstool -- we super-glued him there, just to be safe -- we are searching for the final two members we need to flesh out our ideal 6-member stage lineup. We hope to find two female additions so that our gender ratio will be equal and so vocally, as I like to say, "We can have our Beach Boys and our Supremes." If you or someone you know is a multi-instrumentalist and singer, lives locally and might be interested, please get in touch with us. Guitar and/or piano abilities are most important, but talent on viola/violin or trumpet are also huge pluses.
Our next two shows are at Doug Fir on the 28th of December and at the Towne Lounge on 18th of January, both of them in Portland. We want to see you in that audience! Visit our shows page for all the details.
Hope you are all having an enjoyable wintertime despite the cold and that you haven't worn out playing "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey quite yet.

Containing news of a last-minute show, our first with the new drummer.
There is a fundraiser for Portland Radio Authority taking place at Doug Fir next Wednesday night. Heroes & Villains were slated to play and they unfortunately have to bow out due to circumstances beyond their control. We've been tapped as a late replacement. So our first show with our new drummer (Eric) will be happening a lot sooner than expected!
Update 09/30/06: The details keep changing, but here's what I have for you now: headlining will be The Shaky Hands, a group called Arcularius (formerly Le Push) will be playing, and Graves will be on the bill as well. We're going on first, and the show should start promptly at 9 PM. The Doug Fir, need I remind you, does not observe the traditionally late "Portland show time.")
We hope you'll come cheer us on, but if you can't, there is word that the event will be streamed live by PRA and later podcasted. More info about that can be found on PRA's website, and more about the show itself and the bands playing can be discovered via our shows page.
